The Main One cable project is designed in two phases, with Phase 1 landing in May 2010and becoming Ready For Service (RFS) in June 2010. Phase 2 initiates and mobilises for delivery within months of this.

The Main One Project delivers High Speed Bandwidth of 1.92Tb/s to the West African Shores achieving many commercial firsts. In the race to be the first of its kind on the West Coast of Africa, Main One’s aggressive pursuit of its goals means it has accomplished significantly more than other similar initiatives, even those which may have been initiated before it.

PROJECT COSTS

The Main One project cost for a cable system will consist of 14,000 kilometers of sub-marine fibre optic cabling based on a trunk and branch and with interconnection in Portugal to cable systems serving other geographies i.e. Europe, the Americas and Asia, is USD 400 million (Four Hundred Million dollars).

The initial deployment of Phase 1 will connect Portugal to Nigeria, with a landing station in Ghana and will cost more than USD 200 million (Two Hundred Million dollars). After completion of Phase 1, the Company plans to expand the network to connect South Africa, Angola, Gabon, Senegal, DRC, Cote D’Ivoire and Morocco.

The project has a 24-months build timeline and the progress is summarized as follows:
