Main One’s CEO on the Panel of Capacity Africa 2011

The Chief Executive Officer of Main One Cable, Ms. Funke Opeke, will be among a select group of panelists at this year’s Capacity Africa 2011 conference. The event, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 20th and 21st of September, 2011, is expected to attract over 400 telecommunications providers from across Africa, along with international operators. The conference will also afford an opportunity for leading telecoms operators in Africa to meet, network, and discuss the latest market developments over a variety of panel sessions and presentations.
According to the organizers of the event, Ms. Opeke will be among a panel of telecommunications experts to discuss the impact of the subsea cable coming into West Africa. The panel will focus on the mobile data explosion and the growing trend towards mobile data and mobile broadband in African markets with a focus on West Africa.
The panelists will also share perspectives on the increased availability of capacity across West Africa taking a closer look at Senegal, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ghana and Nigeria as well as assess the revenue opportunities in the content and data market in response to improved international connectivity.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Ms. Opeke said it would offer a good platform for vital insights into enhancing broadband capacity in West Africa. She also added that the role of capacity providers such as Main One in driving broadband penetration will be evaluated. “The event will enable key players in the West African broadband market share insights on challenges and opportunities facing them. It will be an opportunity to exchange ideas on how to synergize with governments across West Africa to take the huge capacity now available to areas that are yet to feel the impact”, she said.
Meanwhile the organizers of the event have described the choice of Ms. Opeke on the panel as recognition of her immense contribution to the development of the telecommunications industry in West Africa. Ms. Opeke spearheaded the setting up of Main One Cable, the first submarine cable company offering open access, wholesale broadband and global IP capacity in West Africa.
It will be recalled that since the Main One Cable network went live in July 2010, the broadband giant has continued to break ground with its open access, wholesale connectivity. Main One currently has a growing list of major telecom and internet service providers in Nigeria and Ghana which include MTN, Etisalat, Starcomms, Swift Networks, Tigo, BusyInternet, among others.
